Philippine President Corazon Aquino ordered a swift investigation into the slaying of U.S. geologist John R. Mitchell, his wife and father-in-law by suspected Communist guerrillas. Mitchell, 42, of Fairbanks, Alaska, was killed in an ambush on the island of Bohol. Also killed was Mitchell’s Filipina wife and her politically influential father. The ambush came a day after a visit to the Philippines by U.S. Defense Secretary Dick Cheney.
