Brett Miller Signs With Jets

The Chargers lost one player and gained another Friday under the Plan B free agency program.

Offensive tackle Brett Miller, who joined the Chargers from the Atlanta Falcons under Play B last year, has signed with the New York Jets. And running back Joe Mickles, a 12th-round draft choice last season who was left unprotected by the Washington Redskins, has signed with the Chargers.

Miller, 6-feet-7 and 300 pounds, started 11 games in 1989 and played in 15. He is the first of 17 unprotected Chargers to sign with another team before the April 1 deadline.

Mickles, 5-10, 210, played in nine games on special teams for the Redskins and did not have a carry. He spent the first six games and the last one on injured reserve with a knee injury. He was drafted last April by Charger General Manager Bobby Beathard when Beathard held the same position with the Redskins.

Mickles is the second Plan B player to sign with the Chargers. Bruce Plummer, a cornerback from Indianapolis, signed earlier this week.
