Nordstrom ‘Guilty’ of Rewarding Initiative, but Others Also Require Work ‘Off the Clock’

Nordstrom management to employees: “If you can sell, sell. If you can’t, go ignore customers at the Broadway.”

That some workers feel stressed by working for an employer who places performance standards on them sounds like a good reason to resign and join civil service. That some “Nordies” earn big money proves it can be done. But for some workers to continue taking the paychecks, complaining and filing lawsuits sounds hypocritical and ungrateful for the opportunity.

I, for one, am glad the company tries to foster a sense of achievement on the job rather than just putting in the time and watching the clock. It shows.
