From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

Angel Wallenda of the Flying Wallendas is about to undergo her fourth cancer operation, which apparently means the end of the wire-walking family act. Angel, 21, who already lost a leg to cancer, has lung cancer and will have surgery in mid-April.

But she goes into the operation with no qualms. “If it works, it works. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t,” said Angel, the wife of Steven Wallenda, 34. “I’ve learned to accept it, whichever angle it takes. I have a lot of faith or an understanding of this world.” She and Steven, nephew of the late patriarch Karl Wallenda, performed together for the last time Sunday in Mansfield at a show to raise money for her expenses.

“It’s kind of heartbreaking for me to realize that,” Steven said of their last show. “A lot of generations have gone into this. It really is the end of an era. I’ll work with my son (Steven II, who is 3) but he may want to be a lawyer or something.”
