Landscape Architect to Speak at UCI

Landscape architect George Hargreaves will speak tonight at 7:30 at the Beckman Center for Science and Engineering at UC Irvine.

The lecture, sponsored by the Newport Harbor Art Museum, is part of a series called “California and Beyond: The State of Design in the ‘90s.”

Based in San Francisco, Hargreaves Associates is the winner of 1989 competitions to design Arts Park L.A. and the Fremont Civic Center in Alameda County.

The firm has also received awards for Plaza Park in San Jose, Harlequin Plaza in Englewood, Colo., and Charleston Place in Mountain View, Calif.

Hargreaves, who received his master’s degree in landscape architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 1979, has been a visiting professor there and at other universities.

His work was included in “Six Views: Contemporary Landscape Architecture,” a 1986 exhibit at Cal State Fullerton.
