Recommendations Made for Arts Agency
An ad hoc committee of Orange County arts officials is to present 120 pages of recommendations for a countywide arts service agency to Supervisor Thomas F. Riley today.
But neither the committee nor Riley plan to make the recommendations public until next week, by which time other supervisors will have had a chance to study them.
The 27-member Committee to Form an Orange County Arts Council has been studying the needs of the arts community since summer to define the proposed agency’s purpose and structure.
Meanwhile, at Riley’s request, county officials have been re-evaluating the county’s minimal role in arts support. Committee officials hope that their recommendations will be used to “forge a common plan of action,” committee director Martin Weil said.
The county has been without an arts service organization since the struggling Orange County Arts Alliance disbanded in 1988.
