NAMES IN THE NEWS : Hazel N. Dukes to Lead NAACP

Hazel N. Dukes, who has overseen New York branches of the NAACP since 1977, has been elected as the organization’s national president.

Dukes is executive director of administration services of the New York City Off-Track Betting Corp. She also serves on numerous governmental and corporate boards, including the State University of New York board of trustees.

She replaces Enolia P. McMillan of Baltimore, where the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People has its headquarters. McMillan had served the maximum term of six years.

Dukes was elected Feb. 17 by the 64-member national board at its annual meeting here, NAACP spokesman Jim Williams said Tuesday.
