Lomita to Study Trash Recycling
The Lomita City Council voted unanimously Monday night to hire an independent consultant to help prepare a plan for recycling the city’s trash.
The consultant, to be chosen by City Administrator Walker Ritter, will work with Ritter and the city’s current trash collector, John M. Shubin Inc., to develop a pilot program to reduce the amount of trash sent to landfills. Under a state law passed last year, cities and counties are required to reduce the waste they send to landfills by at least 25% by 1995 and 50% by the year 2000. They have until July 1, 1991, to file plans to meet those goals.
