Mexico opposition party leader Cuauhtemoc Cardenas blamed the government for increased post-election violence that reportedly left at least three people dead in the southwest city of Zihuatanejo. Cardenas, leader of the center-left Democratic Revolutionary Party, told a news conference in Mexico City that the government “provoked a confrontation” Tuesday with his supporters on airport roads in Zihuatanejo in Guerrero state. Two party members and one officer died in those clashes, police said. Cardenas’ party had challenged Dec. 3 local election results in 20 Guerrero municipalities.
