Anglican Evangelist and Author to Speak at UCI

Canon Bryan Green, an Anglican priest from London known worldwide as an evangelist and author, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the University Club on the UC Irvine campus. His lecture, entitled “How Do We Get God Wrong?” is free and is sponsored by the Canterbury Irvine Foundation, the Episcopal ministry at UCI. The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer period. Green was ordained in 1924 and has led international missions to India, Taiwan, South Africa and the United States. He is the author of “The Practice of Evangelism,” a textbook in theological seminaries worldwide, as well as “Being and Believing” and “Saints Alive!” In 1985, Green received the Lambeth Doctor of Divinity for his work as a parish priest and evangelist from the archbishop of Canterbury. St. Irenaeus Parish will hold its six-week 1990 Lenten series on Tuesdays beginning this week from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 5201 Evergreen Ave., Cypress. The series will focus on the sacrament of penance and will be presented in the parish education building. The Rev. Christ Lutheran Church of Brea will hold a dedication ceremony for an art monument on March 11 at 2 p.m. at 820 W. Imperial Highway. The monument is part of the city’s “Art in Public Places” and represents the largest of all art pieces established to date. The monument, “Christo,” was sculptured by artist Carlos Terres. Zev Yaroslavsky, who represents the 5th Council District in Los Angeles, will speak on “Soviet Jewry Updated” at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Temple Beth Sholom, 2625 N. Tustin Ave., Santa Ana. The lecture is part of the Jewish Community Forum Series 1990. Yaroslavsky was the founder of the California Students for Soviet Jews, organized the first candlelight march and served as the executive director of the Southern California Council for Soviet Jews. Change the World School of Prayer will be presented March 17 at South Coast Christian Church, 792 Victoria St., Costa Mesa. A registration fee of $25 covers the cost of tuition and a prayer manual.
