For Fans of Giverny

Claude Monet’s garden at Giverny is as much an inspiration for today’s gardeners as it was for that Impressionist painter. One such gardener, Elizabeth Murray, was so captivated she quit her job and worked at Giverny for almost a year without pay, just to see it go through the seasons.

What she learned--about the design, the use of color and the care of this garden--became a wonderful book, “Monet’s Passion; Ideas, Inspiration and Insights from the Painter’s Garden” (Pomegranate Press, 1989). The garden is the subject of an illustrated talk to benefit Friends of French Art. The talk will be at the California Club on March 15 at 6:30 p.m. The cost of $55 includes dinner. Call Elin Vanderlip at (213) 377-4444 for reservations or additional information.
