Restraining Order Issued Against Greyhound Drivers

Share

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge Monday issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting striking Greyhound bus drivers from standing closer than 15 feet together when they picket Greyhound’s downtown terminal and maintenance yard.

Greyhound Lines Inc. alleged in court that strikers have vandalized buses and intimidated replacement drivers and passengers. Superior Court Judge David Yaffe set a March 26 hearing on whether to extend his order.

Meanwhile, officials of the Amalgamated Transit Union, which represents 6,300 striking drivers nationwide, sent a message Monday to Greyhound Chairman Fred G. Currey requesting a meeting with him as soon as possible. Negotiations broke off Friday when the strike began. Greyhound said it ran 29% of its routes Monday. Union officials said their own observations convinced them that no more than 10% of the buses were running.
