A third person has died from injuries suffered when a car smashed into the back of a gasoline tanker truck stalled on the Golden State Freeway in Sun Valley, authorities said today.

The 28-year-old man died at Pacifica Hospital of the Valley about an hour after the crash at 9:45 p.m. Monday just north of Lankershim Boulevard, said Officer Tami Low of the California Highway Patrol.

Four passengers in the car--including three children--were sent to hospitals with major injuries. The driver of the car, a 33-year-old man, and his front-seat passenger, a 30-year-old woman, died instantly when the white 1990 Mazda 626 crashed into the disabled tanker, authorities said. No names of the victims have been released pending notification of relatives.

Witnesses said the car drove straight into the parked truck, running over three hazard reflectors and nearly hitting the truck’s driver, Jessie Jorquez, 26, of Whittier. Low said the crash appeared to have been alcohol-related. (Earlier story, B5.)
