Black Family Is Target of 2nd Racist Incident

Share

A man in a ski mask cut the telephone lines and threw a large rock Tuesday through the front window of the home of a Temple City family who last month had a tiny wooden cross burned on their lawn, sheriff’s deputies said.

No one was injured in the attack at the home of Spencer and Patricia Stewart, who are black. The family’s housekeeper saw the man throw the rock and saw him with a knife just before the lines were cut, Patricia Stewart said. By the time police arrived, the man had fled.

No arrests have been made. Deputies had investigated the possibility that a group of self-professed neo-Nazi “skinheads” living nearby had burned the cross, which was nine inches tall and made of toy Lincoln Logs.

Although a set of the miniature logs was found at the house where the “skinheads” live and matched those used in the cross, there was not sufficient evidence to make an arrest, said Lt. Phil Bullington.
