Financially troubled Wang Laboratories Inc. will sell subsidiary InteCom Inc., a maker of communication switching systems, to the French electronics firm Matra S.A. for an undisclosed price.

Proceeds will further reduce the financially troubled computer company’s debt and increase its cash, Wang officials said.

“We continue to make steady and deliberate progress in our program to sell non-strategic assets to eliminate Wang’s debt to its bank group,” said Richard W. Miller, president and chief operating officer, in a statement.

In mid-February, Wang’s bank debt totaled $308 million, spokesman Ed Pignone said. On Feb. 26, the company agreed to sell its international lease financing operations. This sale will reduce bank debt to $93 million, Pignone said.
