SAN CLEMENTE : Pipeline for Recycled Water OKd by City
A pipeline project that would save 650,000 gallons of water per day by supplying recycled water for construction work and a golf course was approved by the City Council.
Moving to avoid a summer water shortage, the council voted 4 to 1 to accelerate completion of the pipeline by almost 18 months.
Scheduled for operation by June, the pipeline will send non-potable water to irrigate the Pacific Golf Club, a private golf course in San Clemente. The reclaimed water will also help the Arvida Co. development firm grade portions of the Talega housing project in nearby unincorporated county land.
Using the waste water for construction and irrigation will give the city another 650,000 gallons to supplement the supply of drinking water, city officials say.
The vote to speed the project is the latest in a series of moves by the City Council to increase San Clemente’s water reserves. Since January, the council has passed several laws to enforce conservation in the city.
