Tammy Faye Bakker is about to go back into the church business. She has signed an agreement to buy a 15,000-square-foot building here as a home for her New Covenant Church, which has been headquartered in a dying shopping mall and a piano store since the downfall of Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker’s PTL Ministry.

Donnie Beck, who heads fund-raising operations for New Covenant Church, said services would be held in the new building this Sunday. “We are buying the building,” he said without revealing the price. “We’re all excited about it.” Part of the building will be converted into a television studio and other parts will be used as a sanctuary and office space. Jim Bakker is in federal prison in Rochester, Minn., serving a 45-year term for defrauding PTL contributors.
