OXNARD : Stocks Elected to Harbor Commission

Share

A strong advocate of port expansion was selected Monday night to serve as a commissioner of the Oxnard Harbor District.

Commissioners voted 3 to 1 for Oxnard educator Steve W. Stocks to fill the unexpired term of the late Cecil Schnelle.

Stocks, an Oxnard Union High School trustee and an Oxnard resident, is an advocate of port expansion and extension of harbor district boundaries to all of Ventura County--key issues facing the harbor this year.

The board has consistently endorsed expansion of district boundaries, while the cities of Oxnard and Port Hueneme have sought a reduction to their city limits. The district’s current boundaries are both towns, plus Camarillo, portions of Thousand Oaks and some unincorporated county areas. The issue is due to be decided March 30 by the Local Agency Formation Commission.

Stocks will serve out Schnelle’s four-year term, which ends in January. He said he plans to run for re-election in November.
