Redoubt Volcano erupted again today, hurling gritty volcanic ash 30,000 feet into the sky, where wind blew it toward Alaska’s largest city, officials say.

Ed Wolfe, a spokesman for the Alaska Volcano Observatory, called it a “modest eruption,” similar in energy to one that occurred Friday.

“We recorded it for about 20 minutes,” Wolfe said.

“We have pilot reports of a plume with some ash in it up to 30,000 feet or more,” he said. “Wind trajectories indicate the ash will move to the northeast in the direction of Anchorage.”
