More tornadoes struck today in Texas, a day after a huge tornado tore a 100-mile path of destruction through the southern half of Kansas, leaving two people dead and injuring 19.

At least two tornadoes caused an undetermined amount of damage today in central Texas, and winds of more than 50 m.p.h. blew over trailers and highway signs and downed power lines across northern parts of the state.

No injuries were immediately reported from a twister that hit the small community of Mitchell, Tex., south of Hillsboro. Authorities said another tornado flipped over a mobile home, uprooted trees and toppled power poles near Belton, Tex.

“We have fire trucks en route. There is damage--to what extent I do not know,” said Joe Creamer, a Hill County sheriff’s dispatcher.

Authorities today cordoned off Hesston, Kan., a town of 3,000, and called out the National Guard to help residents recover from Tuesday night’s devastating tornado. The twister carved a 100-mile path through the flat countryside for 2 1/2 hours, leaving about 100 ruined houses in its wake.

The dead in the Hesston area were a 6-year-old boy and a 68-year-old woman. A missing woman and her teen-age son were found safe.
