Venice : Land-Use Plan Released

Share

A long-awaited preliminary draft of a coastal plan directing the development of Venice has been released for public comment, said City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter.

The land-use plan covers a broad outline of policy directions in seven areas, including shoreline access, recreational facilities and water and marine resources, Galanter said. It will be supplemented with separate plans for three geographic areas.

The state-mandated Venice Local Coastal Program is a blueprint for development restrictions and coastal protection in Venice. “State law requires that we balance the needs of Venice today with the needs of Venice tomorrow,” Galanter said in a written news release.

On March 19, public workshops are scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. at which residents may informally question planning officials and discuss the contents of the plan. A formal public hearing will be held March 28, with sessions at 5 and 7 p.m. All of the events will take place at Venice High School, 13000 Venice Blvd.

Free copies of the plan are available at the Venice Branch Library, 600 California Ave.; the Westminster Senior Center, 1234 Pacific Ave.; the Westchester Municipal Building, 7166 W. Manchester Ave., and Val’s Pharmacy, 1600 Pacific Ave., Venice.
