YORBA LINDA : Nixon Library Event Marks Pat’s Birthday

Share

Girl Scouts from six schools in Yorba Linda will plant Pat Nixon rose bushes at the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace site today in honor of the former First Lady’s 78th birthday.

In addition to the planting of the rose bushes, which produce a dark-red flower named after Pat Nixon during her husband’s presidency, representatives of the Orange County Federation of Republican Women will announce information about the 1990 Pat Nixon Scholarship Program.

The $500 scholarships, which will be awarded to two recipients a year, are “mainly oriented toward women who need more education to re-enter the work force,” said Kevin Cartwright, director of public affairs for the library.
