President Mikhail S. Gorbachev pressed the Soviet dispute with Lithuania today, giving the Baltic republic three days to respond to a parliamentary ruling invalidating the Lithuanian declaration of independence.

Tass press agency said Gorbachev’s demand was contained in a telegram sent to Vytautas Landsbergis, Lithuania’s new president and leader of its independence movement, Sajudis.

“I am sending you the resolution of the Congress of People’s Deputies of the U.S.S.R., adopted on March 15, 1990. Within three days you are to inform us of measures taken to fulfill the aforementioned resolution,” the telegram said.

The resolution, passed Thursday on the final day of a special session that made Gorbachev executive president, described the Lithuanian declaration as invalid and said Soviet law was still in force in the Baltic republic.
