Oxnard : Mass To Be Held for Drive-By Victim
A mass for Rufino Ducler, 45, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Santa Clara Chapel in Oxnard. Ducler was the county’s first homicide victim in 1990.
Although Oxnard police have not yet identified his assailants as gang members, they believe that Ducler was killed in a case of mistaken identity, Detective Daniel Christian said Tuesday.
The drive-by shooting may have been provoked by drug dealers who were operating in the area where Ducler was shot, Christian said, adding that “it’s possible that a drug deal had gone down and gone bad.”
Ducler bled to death in a convenience store parking lot near 1st Street and Rose Avenue in La Colonia, a Latino barrio.
