MISSION VIEJO : Volunteers Sought for Resource Center

Share

City officials are recruiting senior citizens to operate the recently approved Community Resource Center at Mission Viejo Mall.

The center, which the city hopes to open by April 1, will be an information clearinghouse for community affairs.

“We all have problems with bureaucracy sometimes,” Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. George Johnson said. “This will help people access their community services.”

Such basic tasks as getting a bicycle license or learning how to apply for a city permit will be easier and more accessible when the community room opens, Johnson said.

“It’ll be like one-stop shopping” for municipal services, he added.

The city hopes to find 40 people to volunteer for the newly formed Seniors’ Community Activity Team, which will be staffing the center.

“The center will be open the same hours as the mall, so we need a lot of people to run it,” Johnson said.

The center will also be used as a substation for sheriff’s deputies, he said.”We will be able to run drug information, traffic information and other programs out of there,” he said. “There’s practically no limit to the information we can present from the center.”
