Canada to Crack Down on Money Laundering: Canadian officials said they were planning tough legislation that would force financial institutions and other businesses to keep better records of large transactions. The new law would help police monitor large cash movements by drug dealers and other groups that try to convert their illicit bounty by buying bonds or investing in real estate and luxury goods. The initiative is part of a national strategy to fight the drug trade that Prime Minister Brian Mulroney has called a national crisis.
