Harry N. Hoiles, a former co-publisher of the Orange County Register, has retired from the board of Freedom Newspapers Inc., Irvine. His son, Timothy Hoiles, 36, publisher of the Freedom-owned Daily Press in Victorville, will replace him. Hoiles, who has served on the board since the early 1950s, in 1982 sued Freedom and members of his family. Hoiles alleged that his relatives had denied him a meaningful management role after Clarence Hoiles’ death in 1981 and conspired to devalue his stock when he sought to withdraw with his share of Freedom’s assets. An Orange County Superior Court judge dismissed the suit, and Hoiles’ appeal will be heard April 17.
