Pearl Jennings, 49, of Pomona, former secretary-treasurer of a union that represents workers at the Libbey Glass plant in the City of Industry, has been charged with embezzling more than $57,000 in union funds, the U.S. Department of Labor announced.

Jennings, who resigned her office in Flint Glass Workers Union Local 705 last year, was indicted by a federal grand jury and arraigned Monday in federal court in Los Angeles. She pleaded not guilty. Jennings was charged under a law that makes embezzlement of union funds punishable by up to five years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both.

The indictment follows an investigation by the Labor Department’s office of labor-management standards. Attempts to reach Jennings were unsuccessful.
