Pasadena : Plan for Fire Station OKd

Share

Project DAY, a 15-year-old social service agency for youths, received approval Tuesday from the Board of Directors to revamp city-owned Fire Station 36 at 1435 N. Raymond Ave. and convert it to a youth social service center. When completed, the center will have 5,500 square feet of office and recreational space.

The agency plans to apply to the California Youth Authority on Tuesday for $1 million in state funds from a pool of $35 million available statewide. If Project DAY, which stands for Diversion Alternatives for Youth, receives the money, it will pay rent of $1 annually to the city, will assume all maintenance and utility costs for the building, and will seek other social service agencies to rent in the building.
