Peace Concert’s Purpose
Steve Hochman’s March 6 review of the “In the Name of Peace” benefit concert was misplaced. It should have been in the opinion section. His right-wing attitude would be more at home there.
Hochman decried that the concert “left no room for opposing views” and that there was “no interest in debate.” The purpose of the concert was to remember the 70,000 Salvadorans killed in the last 10 years of war and to explain the connection between U.S. military aid to El Salvador and these martyrs. If Hochman wants to debate he should return to college.
As far as it being a “heavy-handed afternoon,” perhaps Hochman feels that a concert exposing America’s bloody hands should have been more light-hearted.
