IRVINE : Mayor Way Ahead in Raising Funds

Incumbent Mayor Larry Agran has raised almost twice as much money for the upcoming mayoral election as his challenger, Councilwoman Sally Anne Sheridan, according to campaign records.

Reports show that between July 1 and last Saturday, Agran raised $60,437 while Sheridan raised $32,744. Agran spent $43,016 in this period compared to Sheridan’s $7,584.

In the City Council race, former Marine Corps Gen. William (Art) Bloomer listed $20,023 in total contributions and $5,298 in expenditures. Barry Hammond, a professional negotiator, reported $6,296 in total contributions and $1,721 in expenditures.

Incumbent Cameron Cosgrove followed with $3,919 in total contributions and $2,188 in total expenditures. Real estate consultant Robert West listed $529 in contributions with no expenditures, while two candidates, Mary Ann Gaido and Albert Nasser, listed no contributions and no expenditures.

Meanwhile, an organization promoting a ballot measure that would widen two vehicular overpasses on Yale Avenue has amassed a $2,581 campaign chest.

The Yale Action committee reported a $1,000 donation from the Issues Mobilization Political Action Committee based in Los Angeles and $1,581 in non-itemized contributions of less than $100 each.

The committee organizing opposition to the bridge expansion, the Friends of Caution for Neighborhood Preservation, listed no contributions and no expenditures.

The election is June 5.
