ELKO, Nev. — Indiana state police headed for Elko today to take into custody a murder suspect who was turned in by viewers of the television show “America’s Most Wanted.”
Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Parker said several viewers of Sunday night’s episode profiling the crime called in to the show to say that suspect Joey Higgins, 28, was working at a tire store in Elko.
Higgins, who used to live in Portage, Ind., was arrested by Elko police at his home without incident, according to Parker.
Higgins is wanted in connection with the Jan. 9, 1988, murder of an Iowa man who had been hitchhiking.
Sunday night’s profile of the crime was the third time the case had aired on the television show.
