All SDG&E; Directors, Except 1, Are San Diegans

With the exception of one Los Angeles resident, the seven members of San Diego Gas & Electric’s board of directors are San Diegans. Members of the largely home-grown group are active in local business, civic and charitable circles.

* Clair W. Burgener, 68, a director since 1983, is president of a local real estate development firm. He is a former Republican Congressman from La Jolla.

* Malin Burnham, 62, is director of a financial services firm and chairman of First National Corp., a local bank-holding company. Burnham is active in many local organizations, including the San Diego Yacht Club, and organized the successful America’s Cup challenge that brought the cup to San Diego.

* Daniel W. Derbes, 59, a director since 1983, was an executive with Signal Cos., the La Jolla-based company that in 1985 agreed to be acquired by New Jersey-based Allied Corp. Derbes also served as a board member of Oak Industries, which recently agreed to move its corporate headquarters to New England.

* Ralph R. Ocampo, 58, a director since 1983, is a physician and surgeon in San Diego. He is a director of Mercy Hospital, and is active in several local charitable and professional organizations.

* Fred C. Stalder, 69, a member of the board since 1969, was chief executive officer of Central Federal Savings & Loan a now-defunct thrift in San Diego. Now retired, Stalder has been active in many local organizations for 40 years.

* Catherine Fitzgerald Wiggs, 56, a director since 1979, is the only out-of-town board member. Wiggs is a management consultant who previously served as an executive vice president at The Broadway Stores.

* Thomas A. Page, 56, a director since 1979, has been chairman of the board since 1983. He is a past chairman of the San Diego Economic Development Commission, which has opposed the merger. SDG&E; recently dropped its membership in the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce, which also has opposed the merger.
