The body of a former state legislator abducted by Muslim separatists was found Sunday in Kashmir state, and an extremist group claimed that the politician had admitted to being a police informer and was hanged.

Police said a patrol found the body of Mir Mustafa on a street in Batmaloo, an extremist hotbed in central Srinagar, a city 400 miles north of New Delhi.

In a related development, police said separatists Saturday night shot and killed a Congress-I party leader and dumped his body outside his home in the Kashmir town of Pahalgam, about 60 miles east of Srinagar. The body of Ghulam Nabi Kullar was discovered Sunday morning, they said.

Mustafa and Kullar were the latest victims of separatists who are engineering a popular uprising against Hindu-dominated Indian rule of the predominantly Muslim Kashmir state, police said.
