The Port Hueneme Elementary School District Monday accepted a bid from SOTA Electronics to supply computers, satellite dishes and other electronic equipment for use in the district’s “smart classrooms” program.

SOTA Electronics’ bid of $753,000--$621,000 for equipment and $132,000 for software development--was the lowest received by the school district.

Smart classrooms are designed to provide advanced education to students in social studies, language arts, reading and mathematics.

There are four smart classrooms in Port Hueneme, but “we want to build three more,” said Dr. Donald B. Cody, administrative assistant for educational services. The equipment will be installed at Blackstock Junior High School, which has been given money to create a “model technical development school,” Cody said.
