San Diego
A 24-year-old man was convicted of first-degree murder Monday in the shooting death of his 14-year-old girlfriend.
Eddie Hollingsworth of San Diego was found guilty of killing Shawana Thomas, whose body was found in a Southeast San Diego trash bin Aug. 4, 1989.
Citing the defendant’s unbelievable testimony, which Superior Court Judge David M. Gill said contradicted that of other witnesses, Gill convicted Hollingsworth after a non-jury trial.
Gill said Thomas was shot in the head three times in a line, indicating an execution-style murder, which contradicts the defense contention that she was killed after an argument.
Hollingsworth will be sentenced May 25. He is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail.
