Embattled “Roseanne” Executive Producer Jeff Harris wanted the whole entertainment world to know he won’t be back next season.

Harris took out a full-page ad in the entertainment trade paper, Daily Variety, addressed to the top-rated sitcom’s cast and crew:

“My sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of you. . . . I have chosen not to return to the show next season. Instead, my wife and I have decided to share a vacation in the peace and quiet of Beirut. . . . “

Harris replaced Matt Williams a year ago after the latter had a series of run-ins with Roseanne Barr, although Williams is still carried on the credits as creator of the Carsey-Werner series. But that solved little and late last year, Jay Daniels, who served as official handholder on the stormy “Moonlighting” set, was brought in as still another executive producer just to keep the peace with the temperamental Roseanne Barr.

A spokesman for ABC said the network had no comment on the ad. David Brokaw, who speaks for Carsey-Werner, said late Tuesday he had “urgent calls” in to the producers, but so far had not been able to reach executives for comment. Brokaw said “a couple of episodes” of “Roseanne” remain to be taped to finish this season’s assignment.

Sources at the network Tuesday indicated Harris is serious, and the strain of getting along with Barr was just too much.
