NATION IN BRIEF : PENNSYLVANIA : Heart-Liver-Kidney Recipient, 26, Dies

A 26-year-old woman who was the world’s only recipient of a heart-liver-kidney transplant has died of hepatitis, hospital officials in Pittsburgh said. Cindy Martin died Monday at Presbyterian-University Hospital, spokeswoman Lisa Rossi said. Her family, including her husband, John, were with her when she died. She had undergone a 21 1/2-hour transplant operation on Dec. 2 and 3 but subsequently contracted non-A, non-B hepatitis, which resulted in kidney failure.
