United, Continental Settle Antitrust Suit: United Airlines settled a $435-million antitrust lawsuit with Continental Airlines, which had accused the larger airline of using its computerized reservation system in unfair competition. The airlines agreed not to disclose the amount of the settlement. As part of the agreement, Continental, a Texas Air Corp. subsidiary, will drop another suit in state court that alleged United violated its contract with the other airline in operating the reservation system between 1980 and 1984.
