Share

The Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education this week officially appointed Phil Linscomb as superintendent of Pasadena schools.

The board had voted March 13 to negotiate a contract with Linscomb, who has been acting superintendent since Jan. 3. The three-year contract approved 4 to 0 Tuesday gives Linscomb an annual salary of $97,500.

He replaces Phillip Jordan, who retired last year. Board member Elbie Hickambottom abstained from the vote because he said he would have preferred a broader search for the job.

Linscomb has been the district’s deputy superintendent of instruction for four years and was an associate superintendent of instruction with the Los Angeles Unified School District for eight years before that.

Citing the cultural diversity of the Pasadena district’s 21,530 students as a strength, Linscomb said his primary goals will be motivating students and improving academic achievement.
