School Names New Head

Barbara E. Wagner has been chosen as the new head of Marlborough School, a private college-preparatory day school for girls in Hancock Park, the school has announced.

Currently director of Marlborough’s Upper School, Wagner will take office July 1. She will succeed Robert A. Chumbook, headmaster for 20 years, who is leaving to become headmaster of Hawaii Preparatory School in Kamuela, Hawaii.

Before coming to Marlborough last year, Wagner was at Graland Country Day School in Denver, where she served as chairwoman of the fine arts department, head of the middle school, assistant head and acting head.

Wagner holds a bachelor of music degree from Michigan State University and a master’s in music education from the University of Colorado.

Founded in 1889, Marlborough is the oldest independent girls school in Southern California. It has an enrollment of 480 in grades 7 through 12.
