Tree-Planting Event Held in Hollywood

More than 100 Hollywood residents took part in a tree-planting ceremony on June Street adjacent to De Longpre Park aimed at creating a living symbol to a neighborhood’s fight against drug dealers.

The tree-planting ceremony last weekend was sponsored by the Hollywood Sentinels, a community group that spearheaded a campaign against drug sales within a 30-block area of Hollywood, and the Hollywood Community Advisory Council, a group that advises the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency on Hollywood redevelopment.

Enrique Noguera, a spokesman of the Hollywood Sentinels, said the community effort was part of a campaign by the group to reclaim the park and demonstrate that drug sales would not be tolerated.

“The trees will also add to the scenic beauty of the neighborhood and provide clean oxygen for all of us to breath,” he said.
