HUNTINGTON BEACH : Poll Says 78% Reject 3rd-Story Additions

Share

Most residents in the exclusive Huntington Harbour area are opposed to homes taller than two stories, according to a poll by its property owners’ association.

The City Council tonight is to hold public hearings involving two Huntington Harbour homeowners who want to add a third story to their houses. The city’s Planning Commission has approved both building proposals, but the Huntington Harbour Property Owners Assn. is vehemently opposed.

Joseph M. Rosen, vice president of the association, has written to the council, saying the association has polled homeowners in Huntington Harbour on the issue. “ . . . The results so far indicate that 78% do not want any three-story homes in the Harbour,” Rosen’s letter said. “Our poll results to date indicate overwhelmingly that three-story homes are not desirable in this community and that third-story remodeling is not contemplated by the vast majority of our neighbors.”

According to the property-owners’ association, three-story homes restrict views of the scenic waterfront areas which surround Huntington Harbour.

At issue are three-story remodeling plans by John and Debbie Briscoe, who live on Ardsley Circle on Humboldt Island, and by Dr. James J. Schell, who lives on Baruna Lane on Davenport Island.

The city staff has recommended that the City Council follow the Planning Commission’s recommendation to approve both remodeling plans.
