From Times Staff and Wire Reports

East Los Angeles Plant to Be Closed: Chevron Chemical Co., a subsidiary of Chevron Corp., will shut down its lube oil additives plant in East Los Angeles in early 1991. It cited the plant’s age and the high cost of meeting new air quality regulations. The plant, built in the 1940s, has about 62 employees. Chevron said it would try to find positions for the employees in other Chevron locations where possible. Plant Manager Kevin Koetter estimated that it would have cost between $1 million and $4 million to bring the plant up to air quality standards going into effect in 1991.
