Pasadena : Building Ban Extended

Share

A two-week citywide moratorium on demolition and building permits for single-family homes of two stories or taller was extended Tuesday by the Pasadena Board of Directors.

The extension was given to allow time for the city attorney to prepare an ordinance creating a citywide interim study district that would limit the size of residential buildings for at least six months while city officials devise new development standards.

The measures were taken after residents from the Madison Heights, Lower Hastings Ranch and Oakdale neighborhoods complained of “mansionization,” the replacement of small single-family homes with large, multistory residences.

Exempted from the measure will be developers who had already submitted building or demolition permits by March 20 or homeowners who can show hardship if construction does not proceed. The board is expected to vote on the interim study district in two weeks.
