Yugoslav Team Impressive in Shooting Event

Connie Petracek of Nashville, Tenn., won the first medal for the United States, and Yugoslav shooters dominated men’s air rifle competition on the first day of the National Rifle Assn.’s World Cup USA near Chino.

Petracek won a bronze medal for the United States, finishing third in the women’s sport pistol event. She shot for 678 points, behind the 681 of winner Jasna Sekaric, of Yugoslavia; and 678 of Lieselotte Breker of West Germany.

Rajmond Debevec of Yugoslavia won the men’s air rifle competition with a score of 695.8, just ahead of Norway’s Stenvaag, at 695.6; and Yugoslavia’s Goran Maksimovic, 694.3.

China’s Wang Yifu won the men’s free pistol event with a score of 665, ahead of silver medal winner Sorin Babii of Romania, who shot 656 and Sweden’s Ragnar Skanaker, 655.

Shooting will continue through Saturday at the Peterson Prado Tiro Ranges. Today’s competition will be mounted in men’s air pistol, free rifle prone, women’s standard rifle prone and the conclusion of the two-day trap event for shotguns.
