FOCUS: BERKELEY PLACE OFFICE BUILDING
This three-story office building is the first speculative real estate venture by a private development firm on the UC Irvine campus. It sits on 2.5 acres of the portion of land that the university may lease to outside organizations. Until now, companies or associations have constructed buildings only for their own use or for UCI employees. While a majority of the space in the Berkeley Place building will be used for UCI’s administrative offices, the remainder will be leased to other tenants. Construction has begun and completion is scheduled for February, 1991. The structure will have two wings connected by a pedestrian plaza with a skylit atrium. There will be both on-site and off-site parking for the building.
