COMO, Italy — Two men captured near the Swiss border in a car filled with weapons and ammunition have been identified as convicted members of the Red Brigades terrorist gang.
Officials said Thursday they were probably preparing a major armed robbery but had no other immediate details.
Police identified the two as Enzo Fontana, 38, who was sentenced to 26 years in prison for killing a highway patrolman in 1977, and Giorgio Giudici, 40, who had served an eight-year prison term for armed robbery.
