SANTA ANA — A motorcycle officer was injured Friday when he crashed broadside into a car making a left turn, and a second officer twisted his ankle when he ran to his colleague’s aid.
Santa Ana Police Officer Steve Winston, 36, was traveling northbound on South Bristol Street about 2 p.m. when he slammed into a southbound 1980 blue Pontiac that was attempting a left turn into a driveway north of Warner Avenue, police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said.
Both officers were taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center. Winston received treatment for minor injuries to his back, wrist and ribs, and released. Sgt. Robert Ensley, 45, suffered torn ligaments in his ankle and was transferred to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills where he was in stable condition, a hospital spokesman said.
Kevin E. Koznicki, 23, of Phoenix, the Pontiac driver, was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
