KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia —
Thai fishermen armed with knives and iron rods attacked a boat carrying 191 refugees from Vietnam, stabbing to death three refugees and kidnaping six of the women, U.N. officials said Friday.
Eleven other refugees were missing and presumed drowned, said the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
The U.N. statement said that of the 191 “boat people,” only 171 escaped. They had left Camau, in the southern tip of Vietnam, on April 1 and were attacked the next day.
